Job description
Provide professional administrative support to underpin delivery of open research support at the University. Support researchers across the University to meet good research practice standards. Support compliance with research funder open access and data sharing requirements and Research Excellence Framework exercise requirements. Work with colleagues to ensure the smooth running and follow-up from training and events.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide frontline support for enquiries about open access and research data management from across the University advising staff and students on the actions required to comply with Research Funder, Research Excellence Framework, and the University Code of Good Practice in Research requirements.
- Collate and enter details of newly accepted publications, and datasets on the University institutional repositories service ‘Enlighten’ while communicating with and informing service users and team members.
- Use knowledge of managing information to run reports and analyse results to identify potential compliance issues and their significance and report on trends. Work with colleagues to develop and deliver action plans based on the results.
- Support training events and meetings, for example identifying and securing dates and venues, advertising and managing bookings.
- Setting up invites, distribute papers, collate information for meetings and take minutes.
- Raise and promote awareness of open access requirements including reviewing and updating web pages.
- Review data management plans using standard rubrics, taking funder and University requirements in to account. Return comments to researchers to aid development of good practice, enhance quality of funding bids, and facilitate funder compliance. Escalate unusual scenarios to senior colleagues for further advice.
- Contribute to projects and initiatives under the direction of the Research Information Manager or delegated initiative leads, delivering work packages to specification and providing enhancement recommendations.
- Contribute to the documentation, development, and implementation of new and enhanced process and procedures for the open research service.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advance Higher/Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role OR Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.
Desirable:
B1 Appreciation of software systems used by Universities and researchers to maintain their record of published research outputs.
B2 Knowledge and understanding of current issues in open research practice in the UK.
