About the role
As Lead Distribution Manager, reporting to the Collections and Distribution Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and legal operation of the collections and distribution fleet operations and management team, ensuring continuous and effective management of our legal obligations whilst overseeing 6 direct report Traffic Office Managers and a wider team of up to 150 drivers.
You will also hold accountability for the leadership of managerial and frontline teams who are trained and motivated to effectively ensure mail/parcel transportation between Plants, Network and Collection hubs, Delivery Offices and our external Customers.
What You’ll Do
- Be responsible for ensuring safe operations through adherence to agreed safety policies, procedures and regulations
- Build effective stakeholder relationships with peers, pipeline colleagues and our customers
- Lead pipeline performance and continuous improvement activity utilising balanced scorecard/key performance indicator metric outputs
- Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements applicable to all fleet and trucks and ensure regular review of fleet utilisation in response to operational need
- Develop an excellent IR/ER climate with full involvement of Distribution employees and the CWU
- Develop effective training plans to support national and local training needs and identify key internal talent to develop a talent plan
- Plan and deployment of annual network revision locally in conjunction with the CWU
Shift Pattern
Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:12, however flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the operation, including weekend and night attendance.
What We’re Looking For
To truly excel in this role, you will possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:
- Knowledge of safety requirements and accident investigation
- Working knowledge of logistics operations, leading teams, and delivering results
- Knowledge of UK road transport legislation - must be Certificate of Professional Competence qualified or be prepared to study to attain within 6 months from joining
- Strategic planning and project management skills, data/budgetary analysis skills
- Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and excellent influencing skills
- Negotiating with both CWU/CMA at local and area level
- Experience of Continuous Improvement
