ABOUT OUR OPPORTUNITY

We are currently looking for a VAT Accountant to join the European Accounting Team working on-site at our office in Grangemouth. The European Accounting Team provides transaction accounting services to a number of businesses based both in the UK and abroad.

 

Key accountabilities

Analyse and prepare VAT Returns on a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly basis using the relevant SAP system reports.

Liaise with third-party service providers and send relevant spreadsheets, reports and copy invoices to enable them to submit a return on our behalf to the relevant authorities in specific countries.

Verify and VAT code purchase invoices.

Clear and reconcile VAT general ledger account codes and investigate any anomalies accordingly.

Prepare VAT cash forecast monthly and send to Cash Forecaster.

Prepare payment request forms and send to treasury to ensure payable VAT returns are paid within the due date.

Analyse and prepare Intrastat returns.

Prepare an EC Sales List which is submitted to relevant EC country’s authorities on a quarterly basis.

Check duty deferment statements match the payment taken on the 15th of every month by HMRC, liaise with Hydrocarbons Team leader to ensure duty costs are allocated correctly.

Meridian VAT engine. Liaise with various contacts within the business to test and make changes to the Meridian table. Advise on the impact of a new business supply or a customer in a new territory and how it should be treated.

Identify and recommend areas for process improvement.

Ensure procedures are maintained.

 

ABOUT YOU

Required:

Be educated to HNC level in Accounting or Business Management and have previous experience in a similar role.

Have excellent experience of Excel.

Have experience of preparing reconciliations.

Have strong numerical and analytical skills and attention to detail.

Pro-active and self-motivating attitude.

Have excellent organisational skills.

Excellent team player with very good communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work to tight deadlines.

A good understanding of UK VAT rules and regulations.

Experience of preparation of Intrastat & VAT returns.

 

Desired:

Previous knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems
