Job description

About us

At UCL, we believe that access to education has the power to transform lives and society. As London’s Global University, we are committed to attracting and supporting a diverse and talented student community from across the world.

Our Student Recruitment and Admissions division plays a critical role in this mission. The Undergraduate and ITE Admissions Office is responsible for all admissions to UCL’s undergraduate degree, affiliate and Teacher Training programmes. It handles over 1,00,000 applications per cycle and is responsible for admitting approximately 9,000 undergraduate and 1,000 ITE students in each academic year. The Admissions function is critical in ensuring that UCL secures the desired number of students to meet UCL’s aspirations in terms of securing and maintaining a well-qualified, balanced student body and associated tuition fee income.

Joining our Undergraduate and ITE Admissions team means becoming part of a collaborative, high-performing environment where your expertise will directly shape the future of our student community.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Admissions Officer to take a leading role in the delivery of undergraduate admissions at UCL, which manages applications to programmes across UCL. This post will typically be focused on undergraduate applications within one of our Faculty Teams.

This is a varied and responsible position, combining operational delivery with team leadership. You will manage a team of admissions staff, supporting their development while ensuring high standards of accuracy, consistency and service across the admissions cycle.

You will oversee the processing and assessment of applications, including complex areas such as fee status determinations, contextual data assessment and non-standard entry cases. Working closely with academic colleagues, you will contribute to the development and application of selection criteria and directly implementing the criteria for decision making. You will also play an active part in delivering results day activities in the summer as well as providing support to colleagues across UCL with open days and welcome activities throughout the academic year.

The role also involves engaging with a wide range of stakeholders — from prospective students and UCAS to academic departments and professional services — ensuring a responsive and informed service at every stage of the applicant journey.

Alongside day-to-day operations, you will contribute to continuous improvement, supporting system developments, monitoring performance against targets, and helping to shape policies and processes that enhance the effectiveness and fairness of our admissions activity.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced admissions professional looking to take the next step in their career within a complex and rewarding environment.

Please note, this role is currently offered on a hybrid working basis and will be based onsite for a minimum of 1-day per week (this may be subject to change in future). At peak times (for example release of A-level results, open days, enrolment etc.) staff will be required on campus more often.

About you

You will bring experience of working in higher education admissions, ideally within undergraduate or UCAS-based processes, alongside a strong understanding of working in high-volume, customer-focused environments.

You are confident leading and developing others, with the ability to motivate a team and ensure high performance during busy and time-critical periods. Your organisational skills are exceptional, enabling you to prioritise effectively and maintain accuracy under pressure.

You will have strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret qualifications, assess applications against defined criteria and make sound, evidence-based decisions. Your attention to detail and commitment to fairness and consistency will be central to your approach.

A clear and professional communicator, you are able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, handling complex or sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.

Above all, you will share UCL’s commitment to delivering an excellent applicant experience and to supporting a diverse and inclusive student body.
