Job description

Be part of something ambitious at Yeovil College. With a flagship campus, major investment in our facilities and a drive to innovate and grow, we’re looking for a Head of Finance who can help shape what comes next. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a commercially focused, forward-thinking FE provider where your financial expertise will influence decisions, unlock opportunities and help deliver our vision for the future.

Leading our Finance Department, you’ll be at the heart of the College’s strategic and commercial decision-making. Working closely with the Vice Principal Finance and Corporate Services, you’ll drive financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, providing the insight and challenge needed to make the most of our resources and support sustainable growth. You’ll lead and develop a talented team, oversee management and year-end accounts, strengthen financial systems and controls, and ensure robust compliance across the College. From evaluating the financial viability of new programmes and apprenticeships to overseeing project costs and presenting to Corporation committees, you’ll bring financial expertise, commercial thinking and a focus on continuous improvement. If you’re ready to combine strategic influence with hands-on financial leadership, this is your opportunity to make a real difference at Yeovil College.

What we're looking for:

  • CCAB qualified, with at least five years’ post-qualification experience and strong technical finance expertise.
  • Proven experience leading and developing a Finance team, ideally within FE or a similar organisation.
  • Confident managing computerised accounting systems, producing timely financial reports and completing monthly balance sheet reviews.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with experience in project accounting, costing products and assessing financial viability.
  • A forward-thinking approach to improving financial processes, embracing AI, automation and smarter ways of working.
  • Commercially minded and highly organised, able to prioritise independently, meet tight deadlines and communicate complex financial information clearly.

What we offer:

  • Annual salary: £49,643 - £59,994
  • Full time, 37 hours per week all year round
  • 35 days holiday (plus Christmas closure & bank holidays)
  • Generous pension scheme of 16.1% employer contributions
  • Staff discount scheme with high street and online retailers
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Free onsite gym
  • Subsidised catering facilities
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Access to free staff parking
