If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Officer to join our team at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and we'd love to hear from you!

You will provide crucial financial support and wider business support on fire resilience including secretariat and finance functions to ensure that all English Fire and Rescue Services receive all required grant funding in a timely manner enabling the £50M National Resilience programme to progress. This will include extensive liaison with our delivery partner, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Authority (MFRA and the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC).

Job description

As the finance officer, your responsibility will be:

Processing of all National Resilience grant payments on SAP and DELTA finance systems totalling circa £50M, including liaison with MHCLG Finance, MHCLG grant compliance and policy team, legal, HM Treasury, and where appropriate Home Office, ensuring system checks are undertaken.

Lead for processing and managing all invoicing for the unit, which includes raising invoices, paying invoices, arranging Purchase Orders etc.

Support and maintain corporate activities and business administration including room bookings and workforce organisation.

Support the smooth running of the Unit through managing leave charts, supporting organisation of away days, managing a forward look, and acting as the SharePoint lead.

Person specification

Some grant management experience, including grant payment mechanisms.

Some Invoice management experience, including raising, paying and tracking invoices.

Confidence in decision making, with the ability to exercise sound judgement and the ability to challenge others in a constructive manner.

Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to understand and present information to senior stakeholders from a wide range of sources, in a succinct manner.

Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of successful internal and external relationship management skills and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships at all levels.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritising workloads to meet tight deadlines.

Ability to be self-motivated, proactively multi-task and work using own initiative.
