Job description

You will be joining BAE Systems as an Early Careers & Skills Development Coach within aircraft maintenance, playing a key role in developing the next generation of aviation professionals. You will support apprentices during the early stages of their careers, delivering and facilitating training such as CAA modules and type training, while assessing their practical skills and technical knowledge. You will ensure learners are progressing against apprenticeship standards, building the competence and confidence required to succeed in aircraft maintenance roles and supporting their progression within the business.

Core duties:

  • Supporting apprentices through their Year 1 and Year 2 development, working closely with HR, managers and the wider business
  • Managing the apprentice assessment process, liaising with the end point assessment organisation to ensure all evidence is accurately recorded
  • Guiding and supporting learners in building the evidence required for competency-based qualifications and apprenticeship standards
  • Coaching and mentoring apprentices, developing their skills, knowledge, behaviours and professional attitudes
  • Promoting continuous improvement to enhance the quality of training and the overall learner experience
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to support apprentices progression into permanent roles within the business

Essential Skills:

  • Aircraft maintenance background
  • Knowledge of apprenticeships, standards, assessment/verification practices and awarding body compliance procedures
  • Experience of leadership or supervision
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and motivate learners
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

The Team:

You will be part of a small, specialist training team within BAE Systems Shared Services function, reporting to the Quality Manager. Working closely with colleagues across HR, training and operational teams, you will play an important role in shaping the development of future BAE Systems apprentices. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will see the direct impact of your work, helping learners grow into skilled professionals and valued members of the business.
