Job description

Are you someone who sees stories in data and enjoys transforming complex information into clear, meaningful insight? At United Utilities, we are looking for a Business Analyst to join our Drainage and Wastewater Management team - a team who combine analytical depth with a collaborative spirit.

Here, you will step into a role where your curiosity is encouraged, your ideas are welcomed and your work genuinely helps shape the future of wastewater services. You will be part of a diverse team that values individuality and different working styles, and you will work closely with colleagues across the business to build strong relationships and share insight.

If you thrive in a space where independence is trusted, resilience is appreciated and taking ownership comes naturally, you will feel right at home.

About The Role

At its core, this is a data analyst role, but one with significant reach and purpose. As a Business Analyst, you will help us understand how our wastewater systems are performing today and what they will require tomorrow. Your analytical skill will be central to long term planning, shaping key investment decisions and supporting the development of our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan.

You will work with large, complex datasets, ensuring information is accurate, reliable and ready to inform business decisions. This role suits someone who thrives on independence, enjoys owning their workload and is proactive in seeking out the next question to answer. Your work will help determine how we protect customers, the environment and future resilience.

About The Team

You will join a friendly and collaborative team where everyone is encouraged to share ideas, support one another and play to their strengths. With a blend of thoughtful analysts and people who thrive on collaborative energy, the team creates a balanced and inclusive environment where every voice is valued.

United Utilities is committed to helping you grow, recognising your contributions and giving you the space to build a fulfilling career. This is a place where resilience, initiative and self-assured working are appreciated, and where strong relationships naturally develop through shared purpose and teamwork.

What You'll Be Doing

You will take ownership of delivering robust, meaningful data insight:

Leading insightful data analysis that supports key business decisions

Supporting the delivery of our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan, Business Plan and County Plans

Driving the creation, validation and accuracy of the data underpinning our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan

Providing technical support for regional risk assessments and asset planning

Championing research, innovation and risk-based investment across the wider team

Acting as a subject matter expert on regulatory performance

Working collaboratively across teams to deliver high quality data, challenge and insight

About You

You will thrive in this role if you are an analytical, motivated and curious team player who enjoys diving into complex information and translating it into clarity. You will bring:

Strong analytical thinking and a love for turning data into decisions

Confidence working with large datasets and multiple data sources

Excellent analytical, problem solving and project management skills

Curiosity, a solution focused mindset and a genuine desire to make a difference

Strong data management skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS

Experience with tools such as Power BI, Python, FME, Databricks or similar platforms (desirable)

Competitive pension (up to 14% employer contribution)

Performance‑related bonus

Company‑funded healthcare plan

Retail discounts, gym savings and wellbeing support
