About us:

King’s Directorate of Estates & Facilities is a key enabler of the university’s Strategic Vision 2029 and we have created a strategy which demonstrates our intent and sets out how the Estates & Facilities team will support the ambition of the university’s strategic vision.

King’s has five campuses in central London consisting of more than 100 buildings ranging in age from the 1780s to the current day. Many are listed and of great architectural significance. The campuses house a diversity of spaces, including teaching and learning environments, cutting edge research facilities, two chapels, cafes and restaurants, gyms and student residences.

The Campus Projects and Minor Works team undertake the full project lifecycle for projects across all the KCL campus and estate.

About the role:

To work with the campus project team in the delivery of small to medium and strategic construction/minor works projects across the campus. You will ensure that the project delivery is professional, compliant, adheres to the University’s procurement, financial and Health and Safety regulations, whilst being effective, nimble, on budget, on time and completed to the expected standard/quality.

You will liaise with key stakeholders on campus, building strong customer relationships and ensuring that the Fit for King’s culture is a continuous presence on site.

You will use your technical expertise to support the wider Asset Management and Engineering team in the delivery of projects across all campus. These projects will range from small and simple minor works to complex and high value strategic technical projects for the campus. The aim of these works is to continually improve the estate for our community, by creating environments which inspire and support learning and research, while protecting and honouring our heritage buildings.  This is a full time position and you will be offered an indefinite contract

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Degree/Post Grad in relevant field or equivalent experience in Project Management with Mechanical bias.
  2. Must have demonstrable knowledge of H&S legislation with IOSH/NEBOSH
  3. Experience of managing all aspect of project management with tangible and demonstrable success with regards of quality, cost, and timescale parameters, and including but not limited to stakeholders’ management strategy, comms strategy, risk management, financial forecasting and management, H&S management, legal/regulatory compliance, etc.
  4. Nationally recognised mechanical/ electrical qualification or trade qualified with significant demonstrable project experience.
  5. Relevant experience within Higher Education sector and/or managing conflicting demands of stakeholders in a customer focused environment.
  6. Analytical aptitude, with planning and controlling skills for complex logistical operations within project management.
  7. Contractor Engagement and Management experience.
  8. Highly computer literate e.g., Microsoft, CAD.
  9. Professional and inspires confidence & presents certain gravitas

Desirable criteria

  1. Member of relevant professional organisation (BIFM/RICS/ APM)
  2. Calm demeanour, un-flustered and maintain a cool head in high stress/pressure situations
  3. Highly motivated with a desire to develop others.
  4. Articulate, tactful and diplomatic, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, when dealing with staff at all levels. Organised and methodical approach to work, whilst still maintaining a flexible attitude.
