Job description
The business is a private‑equity‑backed facilities management services provider, delivering mission‑critical hard and soft FM solutions to a diversified client base across the UK. Operating at sub £30m revenue, the company is at a clear value‑creation inflection point, with an active growth strategy spanning organic expansion, margin improvement and targeted acquisitions.
The shareholder is seeking a commercial, highly operational Finance Director to partner closely with the CEO and PE sponsor. The role will be instrumental in professionalising the finance function, strengthening financial discipline, driving contract‑level profitability and supporting the business through its next phase of scale‑up and eventual exit.
Role Summary
The Finance Director will act as Finance No.1, owning financial strategy, reporting and control across a multi‑site, contract‑led FM operation. The role requires a strong balance of strategic capability and hands‑on execution, with a focus on value creation initiatives, cash generation and scalable financial infrastructure.
Working closely with the CEO, operational leadership team and PE sponsor, the Finance Director will lead budgeting and forecasting, improve contract and customer margin visibility, support pricing and commercial decision‑making, and ensure robust governance, reporting and lender compliance. The role will also play a central part in M&A execution, integration and exit preparation.
Key Responsibilities
Own the financial strategy and planning process in line with the PE value‑creation plan
Build and lead a fit‑for‑purpose finance function, strengthening controls, cadence and accountability
Deliver high‑quality monthly management accounts, KPIs and sponsor‑ready reporting
Drive margin improvement through enhanced contract‑level profitability analysis, pricing discipline and cost control
Partner with operations to optimise labour utilisation, subcontractor spend and service delivery economics
Lead cashflow management, working capital optimisation and covenant compliance
Oversee lender and investor relationships, supporting refinancing or bolt‑on funding as required
Lead financial due diligence, deal execution and post‑acquisition integration for bolt‑on M&A
Implement and optimise finance systems and reporting tools to support scale and exit readiness
Play a central role in shaping the business for a future exit, including data quality, controls and leadership depth
Candidate Profile
Proven Finance Director / CFO or senior finance leader in a PE‑backed, contract‑led services business (FM, support services, construction services or adjacent sectors)
Strong track record of professionalising finance and driving value creation in a lower mid‑market PE environment
Experience operating within labour‑intensive, margin‑sensitive service models
Demonstrable ability to improve EBITDA through pricing, cost discipline and operational leverage
Solid M&A experience, including bolt‑on acquisitions and integration
Highly hands‑on and detail‑oriented, with strong command of reporting, controls and systems
Confident engaging with PE sponsors, lenders and external advisors
Commercial mindset with the ability to influence operational and strategic decisions at board level
Comfortable in fast‑paced, change‑driven environments with clear performance accountability
