Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with excellent analytical and finance skills to work with the Head of Financial Sustainability to support the Trust’s efficiency challenge.

 

The successful applicant will be capable of managing multiple pieces of work simultaneously, working independently, and using their own initiative to solve problems and produce clear outputs.

 

The postholder will work closely with a range of key stakeholders across the Trust including finance, clinicians, operational managers and performance improvement teams in order to deliver operational efficiency.

 

The Finance and Analysis Manager plays a key role in three main areas:

 

Developing financial and non-financial insights and analysis to support CIP identification, development, challenge and impact.

Developing and refining CIP processes and reporting that provide transparency to the organisation, ensuring this is underpinned by a strong quality assurance process.

Engaging with the key stakeholders across the organisation including finance, clinical and operational teams to support ideation of CIP and facilitate data-driven decision-making across the trust

This role will focus on providing support through the development of data insights and analysis tools that enable and drive change, as well as thoughtful engagement with key stakeholders.

 

Main duties of the job

To develop analysis that drives actionable insights (from short term cash savings to longer term transformational schemes) to support business planning and decision making in operational improvement across the Trust.

 

To evaluate and analyse highly complex and contentious issues using expertise in analytic tools, benchmarking using Model hospital, GIRFT and other sources of healthcare data & working with partners including members of the ICS.

 

To develop and implement continuous review and rigour of all CIP projects across the Trust.

 

Responsible for leading the evaluation of control and CIP processes.

 

Develop dashboards using relevant key performance indicators to enable easy tracking and deliver analytical insights.

 

Liaise with numerous teams within the organisation, including but not limited to the Centre for Innovation Transformation and Improvement (CITI), the Faculty of Analytics, CMO, COO, Clinical Groups and Corporate Functions for the sharing of best practice.

 

Design, facilitate and lead workshops, stakeholder events and project meetings with a wide range of stakeholders.

 

To be responsible for making informed recommendations to clients that are based on credible evidence including the analysis of highly complex data.

 

Use data to present evidence and recommendations for service change to a number of audiences including clinical leads and staff, directors, and users. Use data-driven presentations to challenge existing work practices and beliefs for varying audiences.

We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it.

 

Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To develop analysis that drives actionable insights (from short term cash savings to longer term transformational schemes) to support business planning and decision making in operational improvement across the Trust.

To evaluate and analyse highly complex and contentious issues using expertise in analytic tools, benchmarking using Model hospital, GIRFT and other sources of healthcare data & working with partners including members of the ICS.

Use robust problem-solving skills to find and understand root causes of problems and identify opportunities for improvement.

To develop and implement continuous review and rigour of all CIP projects across the Trust. This will include managing projects from inception to completion and developing strategies for analytical transformation.

To lead and work with others to use data to understand and track complex interdependencies between different initiatives and different parts of the organisation or sector.

Responsible for leading the evaluation of control and CIP processes; facilitating collaborative working across clinical and delivery group boundaries ensuring that the focus is on enhancing value and reducing waste.

Develop dashboards using relevant key performance indicators to enable easy tracking and deliver analytical insights as well as champion the use of modern and professional BI tools by working collaboratively with clinical leads and operational teams.

Track and evaluate changes, measuring impact and progress against agreed and robust improvement metrics.

To work with stakeholders to understand business needs and provide specialist analytical advice and insight to inform decisions making and CIP development.

To produce written documentation for a wide range of audiences. This will include project reports, communications, and explanations of technical and complex issues. Make recommendations and present findings at all levels throughout the Trust including to senior clinical and management audiences.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

• Educated to masters degree level or equivalent experience of working at a similar in a complex organisation.

• Evidence of significant continuing professional development that enhances theoretical and practical knowledge.

• Relevant accountancy or financial qualifications or equivalent experience (e.g. CIMA, ACCA)

• Excellent knowledge of IT systems and software programmed such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, MS Teams and PowerPoint.

Desirable criteria

• Certification in project or programme management (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, APM, MSP)

Skills

Essential criteria

• Analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands.

• Experience designing and building models within Excel or using modelling software, as well as creating outputs in Tableau, PowerBI, or equivalent data visualization software

• Advanced communication skills both written (complex report writing) and spoken, including expert facilitation skills

Desirable criteria

• Skilled in data cleaning and database administration

Previous Experience

Essential criteria

• Working knowledge of the NHS (e.g. structure, roles, clinical processes, datasets and information systems)

• Experience of strategic financial analysis including development of new outputs that support and drive change programmes

• Experience of working with and influencing multiple stakeholders and securing their engagement in a significant and successful change initiative

• Considerable experience of working in an autonomous way, working within defined parameters to meet defined objectives

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working across multiple organisations to secure change

• Experience of operating in a consultancy role
