More about the role:

As a Sector Accountant within the Burson Finance team, you will partner closely with the CPA practice, supporting core financial processes and helping to drive commercial insight. Your responsibilities will include managing the processing of approved client budgets, maintaining revenue forecasts and annual budget updates, and coordinating accounts from a finance perspective. You will also play a key role in finance partnering with stakeholders and preparing monthly financial reporting packs, alongside contributing to ad hoc projects across the finance team.

 

We see our Sector Accountants as key business partners, providing valuable financial support and insight to stakeholders. We are looking for someone with strong Excel capabilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of profit and loss dynamics. The ideal candidate will be confident in offering guidance to stakeholders, highly organised, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

 

You will be an energetic and collaborative team player with a proactive mindset, a strong attention to detail, and a genuine ambition to develop your skills and grow within the role.

 

What you'll do:

Support the monthly fee recognition process, ensuring all billable activity is accurately captured and aligned with client budgets and ICFR guidelines.

Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports, including sector P&Ls, forecasts, and reporting for key stakeholders.

Compile monthly finance packs covering client and sector profitability, staff utilisation, and revenue performance for leadership review.

Partner with stakeholders across the business to provide clear financial insight and support decision-making.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and reporting, driving efficiency and accuracy.

Ensure compliance with ICFR requirements, supporting documentation reviews and adherence to internal controls.

Work closely with the Billing and AP teams to manage work in progress, reduce aged debt, and support effective cost control.

Provide broader finance support, including system updates, client and job set-ups, and collaboration with HR and Payroll to maintain accurate financial data.

 

Experience that contributes to success:

Experience in a finance, accounting, or analytical role.

Good understanding of financial principles, including revenue, costs, and profit and loss.

Good Excel skills, with confidence working with data and using formulas.

Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in your work.

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and take a logical, proactive approach to resolving them.

Willingness to learn and develop, with a curious and proactive mindset.

Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance teams.

Organised and able to manage tasks and deadlines in a structured way.
